The Fura Amani Foundation Inc. is a family-owned nonprofit organization located in Jacksonville, Florida. This foundation was started at the beginning of 2022 to fulfill our sense of duty to give back to our community here in Jacksonville and our home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Our founder and president, Adele Kabange, was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo and she immigrated to America in 2000 as a refugee. She became a citizen of the U.S and worked hard to build a life for herself and her family in Jacksonville, FL. Twenty-two years later, she is now wanting to give back to those who are in the same position she was once in, urging her to launch the Fura Amani Foundation Inc.

“When I look back at my life in both the DRC and when I first came to America, all I can think about is how there were too many people who were less fortunate, neglected, or had no resources to help them get on their feet. When I came to the States many years ago, I had been in many situations where I struggled financially as well. I didn’t have anyone to lean on or assist me, considering I came here (the United States) with just my twin brother. We only had each other and the little English we spoke.”
Our vice president, Shekinah Bombo, the eldest daughter of our founder, attends Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy. She plans on continuing her education up to medical school in order to pursue her career as an obstetrician. Aside from school and work, she has devoted her time as a founding member of this foundation because she believes it is her calling to assist others who are in less fortunate circumstances.
“Growing up as a first-generation American, I have witnessed my mother grind and deal with many adversities in order to support our family. It was always heartbreaking when my mom would tell me the things she endured and witnessed while living in Congo, like poverty and seeing children, elderly and disabled people being neglected in the streets by their own kin. There are so many people and families that could relate to our (my family) story who just need that one person or resource to lift them up and give them the assistance they need. Just take a walk around downtown Jacksonville. It is very evident that our city has a huge population of citizens living at the poverty level that needs to be addressed and I believe God is calling me, along with my family, to do just that.”

Our Founder's Journey

At the heart of the Fura Amani Foundation Inc. lies a personal story of resilience and compassion. Our founder and president, Adele Kabange, embarked on a journey from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the United States as a refugee in the year 2000. Overcoming countless challenges, she attained U.S. citizenship and painstakingly crafted a life for herself and her family in Jacksonville, Florida.
Now, two decades later, Adele is inspired to give back. She remembers the struggles she faced and wants to ease the journey for those who now find themselves in the shoes she once wore. This powerful urge to uplift those in similar situations gave birth to the Fura Amani Foundation Inc.
"Reflecting on my life in the DRC and my early years in America, I see the faces of countless individuals who were less fortunate, overlooked, and lacked resources to stand on their own. Arriving in the U.S., I faced my own financial hardships. With just my twin brother by my side and only a basic understanding of English, we leaned on each other. We had to persist, to fight, to grow. The Fura Amani Foundation Inc. is my way of providing the help I once needed to those who need it now." – Adele Kabange
Our Vice President's Dedication
Fura Amani Foundation Inc.'s Vice President, Shekinah Bombo, the eldest daughter of our founder, is a testament to our commitment towards improvement and growth. She is currently a student at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), where she is majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy. With plans to further her education and pursue a career as an obstetrician, Shekinah's dedication goes beyond her academic endeavors.
She has pledged her time and effort as a founding member of this foundation, driven by a deep sense of purpose to help those in less fortunate circumstances.
"Being a first-generation American, I've seen my mother face many challenges to provide for our family. Her stories of hardship, witnessing poverty and neglect in the Congo, struck a chord with me. It's heartbreaking to think of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities being abandoned by their own relatives. But these aren't just tales from another continent. Just take a walk through downtown Jacksonville. Our city harbors a large population of citizens living in poverty, a problem that can't be ignored. I believe, as does my family, that it's our divine calling to tackle this issue head-on. The struggles we've overcome resonate with many other families who just need someone, something, to lend a helping hand. We want to be that helping hand." - Shekinah Bombo

Our Executive Assistant Passion
Tacia Bombo, the second daughter of our founder, fills the role of Executive Assistant at the Fura Amani Foundation Inc. A person of diverse interests, from drawing to learning the ukulele, Tacia's true passion lies in her desire to make a difference. She plans to attend Florida A&M University to study Human Services, a testament to her commitment towards humanitarian work.
"The urge to help is a constant within me. It doesn't matter if it's a family member or a stranger in a grocery store, I'm drawn to lend a hand. Being part of this foundation gives me a sense of purpose. Knowing that I can contribute to improving lives in Jacksonville, where I was raised, and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where my family originated, is incredibly fulfilling." - Tacia Bombo
